The changing scenery and sense of distance give a feeling of the vastness that has shaped life in this region.

Arriving in Mary, explore the city and its everyday rhythm. Visit the lively Mary Bazaar, where stalls display fresh produce, spices, and local goods, offering a glimpse into daily life. Day 2: Mary – Merv – Ashgabat | The Legacy of the Silk Road

Walking through this vast archaeological site, you step into layers of history that span millennia. Explore the imposing Greater and Lesser Gyz Gala, fortress-like structures rising from the desert, and continue to Erk Gala and Gyaur Gala, the oldest parts of the city, where the earliest settlements once stood. The Muhamed Ibn Zeid Mausoleum adds a quieter, refined note to this remarkable historical landscape.

After exploring Merv, return to Mary and visit the Mary History Museum, where the region’s story is brought together through a rich collection of artifacts, offering insight into local culture from ancient times to the present.
