Day 1: Arrival in Islamabad – A Gentle Welcome to the Capital
Your journey begins with a warm welcome in Islamabad, where the peaceful rhythm of the capital offers a gentle introduction to the unfolding adventure in the north.
Upon arrival at Islamabad International Airport, you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel. After a moment to rest, we step out to explore the quiet elegance of Islamabad and the vibrant hustle of Rawalpindi—two cities woven together, yet worlds apart.

Rising to an elevation of 4,173 meters (13,691 ft), the pass crowns the Kaghan Valley, offering sweeping views of jagged peaks and cloud-kissed horizons. The road itself is a marvel—twisting and turning through hairpin bends that seem to stitch the sky to the earth.

This morning, we continue our journey along the Karakoram Highway, driving for just an hour to Raikot Bridge, where the road ends and the adventure deepens. From here, we transfer to local 4x4 jeeps and embark on a thrilling off-road ascent to Tato Village—a bumpy, narrow path that clings to the mountainside and offers glimpses of what lies ahead.
At Tato, we begin our trek on foot—an invigorating 2–3 hour hike (5.5 km) through pine forests and wild alpine terrain, climbing 640 meters toward a place that feels more like a dream than reality.
At an elevation of 3,306 meters, Fairy Meadows unfurls like an emerald carpet beneath the towering face of Nanga Parbat (8,125 m), known as the "Killer Mountain" and the ninth-highest peak in the world. The stillness here is magical, the air is crisp and pure. According to local legend, this highland meadow is the domain of fairies—a gift of nature so enchanting that even spirits linger.

Today, we rise early to embark on an unforgettable full-day trek to one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the Himalayas—the foot of Nanga Parbat, known as the “Naked Mountain.”
Our trail gently winds upward through forested slopes and wildflower-strewn pastures, gaining 467 meters in elevation as we ascend toward the viewpoint at 3,967 meters. As the trees thin and the air becomes still, a vast alpine amphitheater opens before us—staring directly into the icy wall of Nanga Parbat (8,126 m), the ninth-highest peak in the world.
Surrounding the main peak, you will also witness Raikot Peak (7,070 m), Chongra-I (6,844 m), and Ganalo Peak (6,608 m), their glaciers gleaming in the high-altitude light. The silence is profound, broken only by the wind and the distant rumble of avalanches—a place where nature commands reverence.

From Tato, we once again board 4x4 jeeps for the rugged ride to Raikot Bridge, where our overland journey continues.
The drive to Karimabad in Hunza is nothing short of majestic. Along the 178-km route, we pause at key scenic spots, including the renowned Junction Point of Three Mountain Ranges—where the Himalayas, Karakoram, and Hindukush converge in a geological embrace that shapes the landscape and spirit of northern Pakistan. Here, the roads to Gilgit and Skardu part ways, and the sky opens into an amphitheater of towering peaks.
We also stop at the Rakaposhi Viewpoint, where Rakaposhi (7,788 m) rises dramatically from the valley floor, its snow-covered slopes gleaming golden at sunset. Today is a journey into the soul of Hunza’s heritage—where ancient stone fortresses whisper tales of kings, resilience, and centuries of mountain life.
In the morning, we explore Baltit Fort, a 700-year-old architectural gem perched above Karimabad, which once served as the royal residence of the Mirs of Hunza. With its whitewashed walls, carved wooden balconies, and Tibetan-style skylights, the fort offers a breathtaking view of glacial peaks: Rakaposhi (7,788 m), Ultar Sar (7,388 m), and Lady Finger (6,000 m). Walking through its ancient halls feels like stepping into a living chronicle of the region's strategic and cultural evolution.
Just below, we visit the even older Altit Fort, which dramatically clings to a rock cliff that plunges 300 meters straight into the Hunza River. Built over a thousand years ago, Altit is the birthplace of the Hunza Kingdom, with its tiered structure sculpted directly into the natural contours of the cliff.
In the afternoon, we ascend by road to Duiker Valley, a tranquil highland known as the "Roof of the World." This natural balcony offers one of the most majestic panoramas in Pakistan, featuring Golden Peak (7,027 m), Diran (7,266 m), Ultar, Disteghil Sar (7,885 m), and Rakaposhi all stretching across the horizon like a crown of snow. As golden rays illuminate Rakaposhi (7,788 m), Diran (7,266 m), and the jagged blade of Lady Finger (6,000 m), it feels as if the mountains themselves are awakening.
After breakfast, we begin our drive north toward Passu, one of Hunza’s most iconic mountain villages. Along the way, we stop at the Haldikish Sacred Rocks, etched with thousands of ancient petroglyphs—silent testaments from pilgrims and travelers who once journeyed along the Silk Route. These carvings are among the oldest surviving records of Buddhist presence in the region.
In Passu, we check in and refresh before setting out to explore its spectacular surroundings. The turquoise waters of Attabad Lake, formed by a landslide in 2010, shimmer beneath towering cliffs. A short walk leads us to Borith Lake, a serene alpine bowl hidden among sweeping meadows.

Day 8: Where Pakistan Meets China – Khunjerab Pass & Return to Karimabad
Today, we journey to the remote edge of Pakistan, where majestic mountains ascend into the clouds and borders fade into silence. Our destination is the legendary Khunjerab Pass (4,733 m)—the highest paved border crossing in the world and the awe-inspiring point where Pakistan meets China.
We set off early along the iconic Karakoram Highway, often called the Eighth Wonder of the World. The road winds through the stark beauty of Upper Hunza, passing through villages such as Moro Khon, Khyber, Khudabad, and the strategically significant town of Sost—each shaped by centuries of trade and tradition.
As we enter Khunjerab National Park, the trees disappear, giving way to expansive plateaus and snow-capped ridgelines. With a bit of luck, we might catch a glimpse of Himalayan ibex, marmots, or even the elusive snow leopard, hidden in the silence of the high peaks.
At last, we arrive at Khunjerab Pass, where a modest gate marks the border, yet the scale is anything but small. Here, the wind sweeps across a landscape of epic proportions, with mountains stretching endlessly into both Pakistan and China.
After taking time to walk, reflect, and appreciate the extraordinary scenery, we return to Karimabad, descending into the valley just as the evening light warms the stone and sky.
Note: Access to Khunjerab Pass is dependent on weather conditions and may be closed due to snowfall or other adverse circumstances.

Day 10: From Mountains to Antiquity – Returning to Islamabad via Taxila
Today, we bid farewell to the mountains and begin our descent from the alpine valleys of Naran to the capital city of Islamabad, covering a distance of 279 km. As the landscapes soften from rugged peaks to fertile plains, the road carries us not only through space, but also through time.
En route, we visit the ancient city of Taxila, one of the most significant archaeological sites in South Asia. Once a flourishing center of Buddhist learning, art, and architecture, Taxila reached its height between 600 BCE and 500 CE, attracting scholars, monks, and travelers from across Asia.
