Day 1: Arrival in Bled – Slovenia's Alpine Gem

Welcome to Bled, one of Slovenia’s most breathtaking destinations, where natural beauty and rich history come together in a picturesque alpine setting. Nestled along the shores of a stunning glacial lake, Bled is famous for its fairy-tale island church, perched atop a small islet, and the medieval Bled Castle, which stands majestically on a dramatic cliff overlooking the lake.

Take the day to explore at your own pace—stroll along the serene lakeshore.

Highlights of the Day:

  • Admire the island church of Lake Bled, a symbol of Slovenia's beauty and tradition.

Travel Details: Expected travel distance: Own arrangements for arrival; Overnight in Bled (- / - / -)

Day 2: Trek Across the Pokljuka Plateau – Alpine Meadows & Panoramic Views

Your trekking adventure begins with a brief morning transfer to the Pokljuka Plateau (1,280 m), a vast alpine expanse covered in dense fir forests and rolling mountain pastures. This area serves as the starting point for numerous trails leading into the Julian Alps, offering a perfect warm-up before heading into the high mountains.

The morning hike traverses lush meadows adorned with rustic wooden shepherd huts, eventually reaching Lipanska Hut, where you can stop for a traditional hiker’s lunch. In the afternoon, follow a scenic panoramic trail that reveals breathtaking views of the Karawanke range, Krma Valley, and Bohinj Mountains. As the trail winds across open ridgelines and through fragrant pine forests, the stunning landscape of Triglav National Park reveals itself in all its splendor.

Your day concludes at the Pokljuka Biathlon Center, a serene mountain retreat where you will relax before embarking on tomorrow's journey deeper into the Julian Alps.

Highlights of the Day:

  • Trek through the Pokljuka Plateau, an alpine paradise of forests, pastures, and stunning viewpoints.
  • Stop at Lipanska Hut, a charming mountain refuge known for its traditional cuisine.

Travel Details: Trekking distance: ~14 km; Time: ~6 h; Elevation: +710 m / -640 m; Overnight in Pokljuka (B / - / - )

Day 3: Into the Heart of the Julian Alps – Hike to Planika Hut

After an early breakfast, your journey into the high mountains begins. Leaving the Pokljuka Plateau behind, the trail gradually ascends into the rugged heart of Triglav National Park, where the raw beauty of the Julian Alps surrounds you.

The path winds through alpine meadows and rocky outcrops, offering glimpses of jagged peaks and deep valleys. A stop at Vodnikov Dom hut provides an ideal opportunity for a midday break, allowing you to rest and savor a traditional Slovenian mountain meal before tackling the final ascent.

As you climb higher, the landscape transforms into a more dramatic and desolate scene, characterized by towering limestone cliffs that line the trail. Your destination for the night is Planika Hut (2,401 m), situated just below Mount Triglav (2,864 m), Slovenia’s highest peak. Spending the night in a traditional mountain hut dormitory, surrounded by an unparalleled alpine panorama.

Highlights of the Day:

  • Hike deep into Triglav National Park, surrounded by breathtaking alpine scenery.
  • Ascend to Planika Hut (2,401 m), a spectacular overnight stop located just beneath Mount Triglav.

Travel Details: Trekking distance: ~12 km; Time: ~7 h; Elevation: +1,140 m / -110 m; Overnight in Planika Hut (Dormitory) (B / - / -)

Day 4: Across Hribarice Pass to the Valley of the Triglav Lakes

After a hearty breakfast at Planika Hut, you embark on a spectacular trek through the high alpine wilderness of Triglav National Park. The day begins with a steady ascent to Hribarice Pass (2,358 m), a vast, rugged plateau that provides breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding peaks.

From this point, the trail gradually descends into the Valley of the Triglav Lakes, one of the park’s most iconic and picturesque landscapes. Along the way, take a moment to admire Zeleno Jezero (Green Lake), named for the vibrant green hues created by its high algae content. The lake’s tranquil beauty and mirror-like reflections make it a perfect resting spot.

Continuing through the valley, you will be rewarded with stunning views of the remaining Triglav Lakes, which are scattered like glistening jewels across the dramatic alpine terrain. The day concludes at Koča pri Triglavskih Jezerih Hut (1,685 m), a charming mountain refuge situated beside one of the valley’s larger lakes.

Spend the evening soaking in the tranquility of this pristine alpine paradise, surrounded by towering peaks and crystal-clear waters.

Day 5: Journey Through the Triglav Lakes Valley to Komna Hut

Leaving Koča pri Triglavskih Jezerih Hut, the trail leads westward, gradually descending through the alpine terrain of Triglav National Park. Today's journey takes you deeper into the Valley of the Triglav Lakes, passing through lush forests and rocky plateaus on the way to the lowest-lying and warmest of the lakes—Črno Jezero (Black Lake).

Nestled in a forested basin, the lake gets its name from the dense tree cover that stretches right to the water’s edge, giving the lake its dark, mysterious appearance. Take a moment to appreciate the tranquil surroundings and reflect on the pristine beauty of this remote wilderness.

From this point, the trail gradually ascends toward Komna Hut (1,520 m), your resting place for the night. The hut offers stunning views of Lake Bohinj, Slovenia’s largest glacial lake, which stretches out below in the valley.

Highlights of the Day:

  • Hike through the lower Triglav Lakes Valley.
  • Visit Črno Jezero (Black Lake), a mystical glacial lake hidden within dense forests.
  • Enjoy a scenic ridge walk with panoramic views of Bohinj Valley and the surrounding areas.

Travel Details: Trekking distance: ~8 km; Time: ~3 h; Elevation: +130 m / -300 m; Overnight in Komna Hut (Dormitory) (B / - / -)

Day 6: Descent into Bohinj Valley – Waterfalls, Lakes, and Panoramic Views

After breakfast at Komna Hut, your journey continues with a scenic descent along an old military road that leads to Savica Waterfall, one of Slovenia’s most famous natural landmarks. This majestic cascade plunges 78 meters from a high alpine karst spring and serves as the primary source of Lake Bohinj, creating a connection between Slovenia’s rugged mountain landscapes and its largest glacial lake.

From this point, the trail follows the northern shore of Lake Bohinj, a serene and pristine paradise framed by majestic peaks. Upon arriving in the village of Ribčev Laz, treat yourself to a taste of local tradition by warming up with homemade honey brandy and schnapps at a cozy lakeside bar.

Travel Details: Trekking distance: ~16 km; Time: ~5 h; Elevation: +60 m / -1,050 m; Overnight in Ribčev Laz (4-star hotel) (B / - / -)

Day 7: Explore the Upper Bohinj Valley or Relax by the Lake

After days of trekking through the Julian Alps, today presents a choice: enjoy a well-deserved rest by the serene Lake Bohinj or embark on a final scenic hike through the picturesque Upper Bohinj Valley.

For those eager to continue their exploration, the route winds through idyllic alpine villages, where traditional wooden houses and flower-filled meadows create a picturesque scene of rural Slovenia.
